The Human Machines : First Aid session

Marlborough Girls' College —

At Marlborough Girls’ College, we believe that developing our students’ learning capabilities is as important as the curriculum content. The “Human Machines" which is the new year 11 course covers human biology as well as raises the awareness on the importance of giving back to the community.

In collaboration with St John Ambulance New Zealand, we organised a first aid workshop on 3 Steps of Life course aiming to build confidence and awareness to act as first aiders.

Josh Wooding, Group Operations Manager Marlborough, Tasman District and his team carried out the training. We also had Kittie who is a registered nurse join us on the day. She shared her success stories and highlighted the positive impact doing service work can have on individuals and communities.

Comments from students:

It was very interesting and interactive. I enjoyed lying in the stretcher and pushing the buttons.

The session was very useful. Because of this talk, I now feel much more confident if I ever have to do CPR.

We got to do hands-on activities and we could practice our skills.

I think the ambulance walk-through was very interesting. I liked learning about how the space is used and how the ambulance itself has evolved over time.

It was very intriguing and I enjoyed the visual learning walk through.

It was very fun and I learnt a lot.

I found it useful because I didn't know how to do CPR properly before, but now I feel a lot better knowing I have more information on it in case I ever come across a situation where I might need to use CPR.
