Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua. I walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on my past.

Mary-Jeanne Lynch —

Kia ora e te whānau.

We were delighted to celebrate our 60th Jubilee last Friday and Saturday, and welcomed ex-students from around the country back to visit our school for the last big birthday before we co-locate with MBC. The celebration of our past, our present and our future started with a mihi whakatau to welcome back our old girls. Our students took great delight in showing our visitors around our campus and sharing stories about school life. Our old girls, many of whom were foundation students from 1963 when MGC first opened, were amazed at our beautiful grounds, facilities and opportunities compared to when they were at school.

We heard from Diana Hubbard about the importance of being yourself and how MGC prepared her for a life of learning and opportunities. Current students heard about the history of our school and understood better that they are part of a long and very proud tradition of educating Marlborough women. We acknowledged and thanked previous Principals and staff who provided the foundation that we continue to build on today.

It is clear to me that despite changes in curriculum, uniform or timetable over the years, the strength of our school lies in our belief in the almost unlimited potential of every student to achieve great things, and our role in creating an environment that supports students knowing who they are, having a sense of belonging and being part of our big whānau, experiencing rich learning that is connected with our community, and growing the leaders of tomorrow through sharing kindness and service. Our values in action - Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our school and our students. We look forward to serving the Marlborough community to the best of our ability for the next 60 years!

Have a relaxing and safe Labour weekend break.Ngā mihi nuiMary-Jeanne
