Marlborough Girls' College —

The Marlborough SGCNZ Shakespeare Festival was held on Saturday 1st of April at the Marlborough Girls' College hall.

There were nine entries - seven of which were directed by students. The entries covered a diverse range of plays with extracts from Measure for Measure, Macbeth, Hamlet, The Merry Wives of Windsor, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Comedy of Errors. 

Entrants ranged from 8 years old to 18 years old and cross Marlborough Girls' College, Queen Charlotte College and MCY Theatre and Stagelab representing youth theatre in Marlborough. 

A total of 5 entries were eligible to be selected for the National Festival over Kings Birthday weekend. Congratulations to the following MGC groups who were selected and will be travelling to Wellington in June: 

  • Five minute piece selected for National Festival The Merry Wives of Windsor directed by Jessie Gatjens and Starring Leander Mason as Mistress Page and Temiah Cyster as Mistress Ford. (MGC)
  • Five minute piece selected for National Festival Measure for Measure directed by Abigail Sandall and starring Imogen James as Angelo, Lu van Asch as Isabella and Lexie Newman as Servant (MGC)

Congratulations also to Best Director (Sponsored by the Del'Monte Family) Jessie Gatjens (MGC) for The Merry Wives of Windsor.
