Sporting Successes

Marlborough Girls' College —

Congratulations to all our rangatahi who are competing in a variety of local and national tournaments in their specialised sports.

Triathlon

Recently over 300 athletes hit the lake and streets to battle it out in the Triathlon New Zealand National Aquathlon Championship in Taupo. Neve McKenzie came away with the U16 NZ Aquathlon title then backed it up with a win in the U16 Tri Series. Great work, we are very proud of you Neve!

Mountain biking

Congratulations to those students who attended the Tasman Secondary Sports Mountain Biking event at Silvan Forest in Nelson recently. Some amazing results to share.

  • Maddy Sinclair U19 1st Enduro, 1st Cross Country (1st Overall)
  • Katie Pugh U15 7th Enduro, 4th Cross Country (5th Overall)

Shooting

Congratulations to Stella Henry who earned a prestigious silver fern at the National Outdoor Smallbore Target Shooting Championships in Christchurch on Saturday. Stella qualified to compete in the NZ Open, Junior and Junior Women’s teams in matches against Australia, together with being selected for the NZ Women’s team for an annual match between NZ, USA and Great Britain. The results of these matches won’t be known until the other countries shoot their matches, but we look forward to seeing how they go.

Stella was also a member of the South Island team which beat the North Island for the first time in 16 years in an annual North vs South match. Fantastic work Stella.

Tennis

Our MGC tennis teams competed at the recent Tasman Sports Competition. MGC A team competed in Division 1, losing to Nelson College for Girls in a count back 36-39 after matches were tied 3-3. What a nail biter!

MGC Blue defeated MGC Gold in the semi of Division 2 to make it to the final against Waimea Gold. An amazing effort.

Touch Team

Our MGC A Touch team were the winners of the Marlborough Womens Open Grade last Thursday, defeating Marlborough 7201 women. An impressive result in a tough competition. They have also been reselected to compete at the SISS touch champs in March. Good luck team!
