Adventure Marlborough Camp

Emily Page - Camp Coordinator —

The Adventure Marlborough camp this semester was based at Marahau Outdoor Education camp and Whenua Iti Outdoors, 14th-17th June 2022.

During the camp students got to participate in a number of different challenging activities including high ropes, tower climb, trapeze, caving, bush skills, paddle boarding and mountain biking. These were designed to push students out of their comfort zone, to help them to develop resilience and support for other students.

We were very lucky that for the first two evenings dinner was prepared by students on the Manaaki Tapoi program operated by Whenua Iti Outdoors. This involved senior students from MGC, MBC and QCC leading a formal welcome (Powhiri), cooking and serving dinner and providing entertainment through waiata.

Our students had an amazing time at camp. The highlights for most of them was the day in Kaiteriteri paddle boarding and mountain biking.

A big thank you to Whenua Iti Outdoors and the MGC staff supporting the trip, Ian Thomas, Sharon Kennard and Whaea Sarah Kendal.

Hear more from our students about how they found it below.

  • The Whenua Iti camp is such an amazing experience and it’s very memorable. You get to push yourself outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself through a variety of activities like mountain biking, paddle boarding, caving, bush skills, high ropes, trapeze, and tower climbing. The support you get from everyone including the tutors is amazing and inspiring.  After the camp you will look back and think about all of the challenging parts and when you wanted to give up but remember that it is all worth it.

Katie Poff, Year 10

  • Camp was lots of fun and I made heaps of new memories. We had a blast paddle boarding, mountain biking, caving, climbing and doing high ropes. I felt I was pushed to my limits, but in a good way that improved my outdoor skills. The bonds and memories I made will stick with me forever. The Whenua Iti staff were so kind and considerate they made sure we were all having a good time whilst doing the activities. My overall experience from camp was very enjoyable and I loved participating.
