Mahi Tahi - to work together, collaborate, cooperate, teamwork

As we started week 3 of Term 1, we consider what we need to do to achieve our goals and success this year. The picture above is from the first day that everybody was back at school. In the afternoon we had an awesome celebration of our house culture with students working together and competing against other whānau classes.

Now that we are into the business of teaching and learning, the whakatauki below is worth remembering.  While students are setting goals both big and small, we need to remember that small actions every day can lead to great things.

In junior assembly this week we talked about our values and what they mean in terms of actions.

Whanaungatanga - we are all part of the MGC family and so we need to look after all our new students and staff at school

Manaakitanga - we offer support and are generous and kind, and we believe that every student has the almost unlimited potential to achieve great things.

Kotahitanga - while we are all different and bring different strenghts, when we work together we achieve great things.

Mahitahi in the classroom, around the school and at home will ensure that everyone achieves their goals.

We are really proud of the success of our senior students in NCEA exams last year and next week we will be celebrating those who have achieved academic honours in senior assembly.

We all acknowledge 2022 was a pretty tough year for learning for lots of different reasons and so our students' success in their exams is worth celebrating.  We are really proud that  the percentage of students that achieved Level 1, 2 and 3 was higher than the national average.

Our MGC results were:

  • 73% achieved Level 1
  • 87% achieved Level 2
  • 69% achieved Level 3

We recognise there is always room for improvement and are working towards improving our results for 2023.

One sure fire way to ensure qualification success this year is to be at school. We will be focusing on attendance for the rest of this term. I was concerned that a lot of students signed in late on Thursday morning on our late start. Please support us in promoting attendance at school every day on time. It will make a difference to learning and achievement.
