Libros de español - Spanish books

Colleen Shipley, Librarian —

The College Library was thrilled to receive a number of books in Spanish last week.

A ceremony was held on Friday 8 March, coinciding with International Women’s Day, in the College library to celebrate the donation of a number of books in Spanish from a member of our local Chilean community and from the Chilean Consulate.

Ms Maria Alejandra Farias Munoz, Chilean Consul, was here from the Consulate to present books including ‘Poemas Mōteatea Poems.’ This is a collection of poems by celebrated Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral, translated into te reo Māori and English. A local Chilean family, Ms Maria Flores and her daughter Valentina and their International student Azul Marin Vallejo, performed a poem from the books for us with Cleo Collins, Manutaki Māori, performing alongside.

Ngā mihi nui to our International Director, Olga Fuentes Astorga who organised the event and to the Chilean Consulate.

The books will be a great addition for our Spanish speakers and Spanish learners.
