Building better Baristas

Emily Hodges, Y13 —

Over 20 students recently completed a Barista course - Emily Hodges shares her experiences and learning here.

I had the opportunity to participate in the 2 day barista course.

In this course we learnt how to make multiple different coffees and the different parts of the coffee machine. Throughout this course you make so many coffees you can’t keep track of the number and on the last day the classroom is opened up for you to make coffees for your teachers and get their advice.

Within this course you do have to do a booklet but it’s all pretty simple to understand and do and the teacher is very helpful if you get confused.

I would highly recommend it to anyone as it is another thing to add to your CV and its great for your employer to see that you have been able to sit and pass a course.

Emily Hodges, Year 13

What did they learn?

Students gained comprehensive knowledge about the origins of coffee beans and learned the techniques to create a diverse range of coffees and hot chocolates. Throughout the course, students engaged in hands-on experiences, allowing them to become proficient in the art of coffee making, including the creation of intricate milk designs. The course proved to be highly successful over a span of two days, culminating in the students showcasing their skills by providing coffees to both the staff and their fellow Year 13 students.
