NZSS Futsal

Last week the MGC Futsal team participated in the NZSS Futsal tournament in Wellington. We started out with two good wins on the first day.  The second day we came up against some really tough teams.  We drew against Hamilton Girls 3-3 and the next two games were extremely tough.  We lost both of them but played quite well.

By the last day we were all exhausted, but still very keen.  We won our first game 2-3 against Hillcrest High School which put us into the playoffs for 13th and  14th place.  Unfortunately we lost our last game against Wellington Girls.  Overall we came 14th out of 30 teams which we were pretty happy with.

Participants were Sophie Campbell, Giana Chen, Jaimie Elrick, Leni Manson, Jemimah O'Donnell, Katie Pugh, Ruby Quinn, Maddison Rowe, Lauren Sloan

NZSS Triathlon/Duathlon

Neve McKenzie (Year 10) placed 3rd in the U16 Girls NZSS Triathlon in Wanaka in very chilly conditions that saw the officials delay the start due to the cold temperatures. During the transition from the swim to the bike, Neve's wetsuit zip locked in position, and she was unable to remove the wetsuit and lost valuable time until a marshall was able to assist. Neve proved amazing resilience and chased down the pack on the bike and run, to finish in 3rd place. An outstanding result given the circumstance. Well done.
