Mentors in the classroom

Marlborough Girls' College —

Throughout Term 2 we have several mentors coming in to work with our Environmental Sustainability students.

We are so lucky to have amazing people who offer their time and experience as mentors in support of our Environmental Sustainability programme.

This week we had visits from:

  • Eric Jorgensen who is a mentor for our Environmental Studies students. He is involved in research and many other initiatives around environmental change and management that impacts the coastal marine area and associated people.
  • Demi Fearn - Mentor and former MGC student who recently completed a degree in Biology at the University of Canterbury.  Demi was one of just seven tertiary students selected to take part in Cawthron's 2022/23 summer scholarship programme. She completed her scholarship on seagrass after being selected for the Cawthron Marlborough Environment Award.  To find out more about her journey so far, click on the link https://www.cawthron.org.nz/our-news/scholarship-enables-marlborough-student-to-pursue-marine-conservation/. For those that prefer to listen, there is also a podcast on Demi's seagrass work available here.
