World Scholar's Cup
MGC students compete in regional academic competition at Avonside College in Christchurch.
Eighteen students in six teams travelled to Avonside Girls College to compete in the World Scholar's Cup. In this regional qualifying event, they competed in collaborative writing, debating, and questions against teams from across the South Island.
Emily Pitcon, was one of eight students selected as a WOW debater to qualify for the Debate Showcase. Four students competed on the theatre stage to prepare and debate the affirmative or negative for the resolve statement about banning books in libraries. Emily's team won the debate on the stage for the negative.
The World Scholar's Cup was a competition and a platform for our students to learn new skills, take risks, and forge friendships with students from other schools. As a symbol of their participation, each student came away with an alpaca, a tangible reminder of their journey at the competition.
