2023 NCEA Results

Marlborough Girls' College —

We are really delighted to share our 2023 NCEA results with you and a huge congratulations to our students and staff for their hard work and dedication last year.

While national headlines in mid January told us that NCEA pass rates were down across the country, MGC students bucked the national trend with improved pass rates, compared with 2022.

MGC students continue to achieve results above national pass rates, and also above pass rates for similar schools (based on socio-economic factors). We also recognise that last year students’ results were not supported through additional learning recognition credits due to COVID.

We are very pleased with the improvement in achievement for Māori students at MGC. Again, the achievement rates are up compared to 2022 and the gap between Māori student achievement and their peers at MGC has decreased significantly. Māori students at MGC are achieving better than Māori students nationally and at similar schools to us.

Our literacy and numeracy continue to remain high at 92% for Literacy and 87% for Numeracy for Level 1 students. As we know, some students attain their Literacy and Numeracy qualifications throughout Year 12 and 13, and 97% of our Year 13s leave with both their Literacy and Numeracy.  Again, we’re punching above our weight compared to other schools across the country.

Excellence and Merit endorsements have remained relatively constant compared to previous years, with our students achieving endorsements as well as, if not better than other students across the country and in similar schools.

Congratulations to all students for achieving your qualification goals last year.
