Exploring Creativity at MGC
We had our MGC Arts Week in week 3 with lots of fun workshops running right through the week including songwriting, graffiti art, DJ-ing and African dancing and drumming.
Local and international artists visited MGC and worked with over 500 students.
The Songwriting workshop was led by Liz McKay from Creative Kids and local musicians:; Josie Robertson, Heather Jameson and Anna Moore. These sessions explored a creative songwriting process.
Thijs de Koning, an artist from West Auckland ran Graffiti Art class. Students painted 14 boards which are going to be displayed around the College.
On Wednesday we had DJ FAM from Pluto Project visiting us with amazing equipment and a set up of very powerful speakers provided by Discrete Sound. Students experimented with different genres of music, tried to mix sounds and had a dance at lunchtime.
Kadodo Music from Western Ghana led African dancing and drumming workshops on Thursday and Friday. Students learnt different rhythms and dancing routines from Africa. A group of students performed with Kadodo at MySpace during a Multicultural Concert on Friday. It was a very successful week full of joy and fun!
