Anafuamanu Te’o (Pasifika Manutaki) —

Last Saturday our ‘Siva Mai Sau Ia’ Pasifika Performing Arts class performed at the Marlborough Polyfest.

Through the strong winds and chilly weather, we performed two amazing dances: a Samoan Ma’ulu’ulu and a Tongan Ma'ulu'ulu. Our strong group of 26 girls showed grace and poise as we showed control and accuracy in graceful hand movements, eyes following our hand gestures and holding a performance energy in our Samoan performance. It is important to thank the Moli family, especially Mr and Mrs Moli, for supporting our Tongan mā’ulu’ulu by being our accompanying vocals as we performed our Tongan item. This was the only second time we have performed this dance in public and it was truly amazing to see the development of our group grow from strength to strength in this performance.

Finally, we wish to acknowledge our Manukura; Veisinia Moli. Vei danced her final tau’olunga dance as a student of MGC at this polyfest. It was a sad yet momentous opportunity for us to be able to support our Manukura through the ‘chee-hoos’ and tears.

We hope we have done MGC proud in all that we do in Pasifika dance. Fa’afetai tele lava.
