Getting to know you - Year 8 Edition!

Marlborough Girls' College —

Ma Te Kahukura Ka Rere Te Manu - Adorn the Bird With Feathers So It May Fly

Kōrero with Kaiako

In mid November we met with many of our Year 8 whānau in our "Getting to know you kōrero" sessions we held over a number of days in our library.

This offered the opportunity for us to get to know how we may best "adorn the bird the feathers" to help make the transition into college life an easier one for our Year 8's and also offered them a chance to meet some of the staff and talk about themselves and what they are looking forward to - or feeling nervous about - when they start their secondary school journey with us in 2023.

Year 8 Introductory Day

On Thursday 24 November we welcomed our new Year 9's for 2023 to MGC for the day. It was great to welcome them to our kura and show them around.

During the day they learnt more about our school values - Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga and Kotahitanga - and joined in some activities to learn more about them.

They were then split into groups and had the opportunity to attend some taster sessions in a range of areas including Pasifika Dance, Japanese, Technology, Visual art, Music and much more. Finally they worked together to complete the Year 8 Challenge with a range of activities and challenges around the school.

A big thank you to our 2023 Manutaki and current Year 9 students who supported them as they got used to their new school for next year.
