Senior Dean Update

Jenny Pullin, Y13 Dean —

Our senior students have been working this term on preparing and building skills for life beyond school.

Year 13 - Jenny Pullin, Dean

The focus of our Hauora Programme has been Careers and work readiness.

Recenty we were lucky enough to listen to two guest speakers from the Inland Revenue Department, where students learned about taxes, student loans and kiwi saver - all very important topics they need to know for their next chapter in work and further education.

Last week, Year 13s had the opportunity to attend the Future of Work conference here in Blenheim. This is an exciting chance to explore different career pathways in Marlborough and around Aotearoa.

Making decisions for the future can be daunting, but it is also exciting. I encourage students to talk with their Whānau teachers and Miss Tattersall, Careers and Pathways Leader. We are all here to support students to make the right decisions for next year, and we look forward to seeing what their future holds.

Year 12 - Sophie van Velthooven, Dean

During extended Whānau time this year, Year 12 students have been engaged in Passion Projects, which provide them with opportunities to acquire new skills and develop strategies for maintaining their well-being, particularly during stressful periods. Among the projects undertaken are Car Maintenance and Knitting.

In Car Maintenance, students have learned essential skills such as handling a flat tire, changing tires, and checking the oil and water levels in their vehicles. In the knitting project, students have acquired fundamental knitting techniques with the aim of creating their own beanies. The calm and respite from busy life that knitting provides is super helpful for enhancing wellbeing.
