Summer Learning Journey

Paul Tyson —

The Summer Learning Journey is a free, blogging programme available to Year 5-8 students attending schools in the Manaiakalani clusters who have been sharing via their own blog for at least a year while learning to be cyber smart.

Over the past four summers, many learners in Manaiakalani schools have participated in this free, digital literacy programme. The purpose of the Summer Learning Journey programme is to provide our young people with an opportunity to continue to actively and purposefully engage in literacy learning during the holidays.

The educational blogging programme was designed by a team at the Woolf Fisher Research Centre with considerable input and support from the Manaiakalani Community of Learning. It was designed to be a continuation of the ‘Learn Create Share’ pedagogy that students engage with during the school year at Manaiakalani cluster schools.

The theme for the programme this year is “Changemakers: People Who Have Changed the World.” Participants will be able to choose from one of 60 activities and then share what they have learnt on their individual school blog.

Summer Learning Journey Staff will read all of the students’ blogs and post personalised, supportive and educational comments for each student.

Our school will be supporting our Year 5-8 students to register during the first week of December. From the 9th - 13 December students will also be able to participate in a specially designed teaser for the Summer Learning Journey while still at school.

The programme officially starts on Monday 16 December 2019 and runs until Friday 24 January 2020.
