Whānau (family). I’m for ever grateful for my wife Ashley, my daughter Meisha and I’m excited to meet the next addition due December. It’s important for me to spend as much time as possible with my extended whānau, especially with my Nan who has turned 90 this year and is the matriarch of the family. I love fishing; boat fishing, rock fishing and kayak fishing, which I find is a great time to meditate and appreciate the environment we live in. I love food, and my wife and I consider ourselves ‘foodies’ always seeking new and interesting places to eat. I’m becoming more and more interested in mental health, and the implications that technology has on society, especially our rangatahi (youth). I love sport and grew up playing as many codes as possible. A word of advice, play as many sports as you can, while you can. The complexities and tactics of various sports will enable you to become a better athlete. And while you can because when you’re old… well you’re old, then you can take up golf. Lastly, coaching… I have been blessed with many great coaches and mentors, and coaching has been a way for me to pass on my knowledge of rugby, touch and rugby league, to youth and adults. I started coaching when I was 16, the mighty 7th grade rugby team at Orewa College, and the rest was history, from player coaching in New Zealand to coaching in England and Ireland. My passion for coaching is what has led me to my passion for teaching.
Massey High School:
I live on the Hibiscus Coast and have been travelling to Massey High School for nearly 9 years. Many people say “that’s a commute”, but every minute getting to work is worth it. I strongly believe that Massey has it all. The students are charismatic, empathic and culturally inclusive. The opportunities that are on offer here are incredible and it still blows my mind what our trades academy offer to our students - it truly is world class. What I also love about this school is how much aroha and work our teachers put into our students. Staff here at Massey are an inspiration, they would truly go to war for your children, and their dedication and commitment to providing the best possible outcomes for their students are second to none. As educators it is our responsibility to instil and embrace a love for learning and education in our students and the community.
Te manu e kai ana i te miro nona te ngahere, te manu e kai ana i te matauranga nona te ao.
The bird who consumes the miro berry, owns the forest. The bird that consumes knowledge, the world is theirs.
