EVOLOCITY TEAMS

The Evolocity school programme engages teams of students in designing and building an electric vehicle using an electric motor componentry kit which is supplied. Team members adapt bicycles or build karts to be powered by these electric motors and develop skills in fields such as:

* Mechanical & electrical engineering

* Electronics & programming

* Sensor and display programming

* Video making and marketing

* Teamwork

There are two Evolocity Teams at Massey High School and they are making great progress in their mission to compete in the Auckland Regional finals in the September holidays.

Our teams this year are a combination of Year 9 students and senior students from the Automotive Academy. Tertiary partners of the Evolocity programme such as Unitec and University of Auckland, provide insightful development build days either after school or at the weekend. (The next one is Saturday 23rd June at UoA). The school will be entering two teams in the regional competition. The students involved are Ben Fuller, Troy Jefferies, Denver Woolley, David Chea, Nathaniel Close, Leon van Vught, Jordan Clark and Mathew Francis. Mr Swindells provides guidance in the metal shop and students are supervised by Mr Viskovich or Mr Hackett.

The programme now extends from Canterbury through to Nelson, Wellington, Waikato and Auckland schools. This is the second year that Auckland schools have been involved.

The EVolocity Vision is: “To establish a programme that will enable participants to gain knowledge, skills and passion in the areas of design, engineering and technology that will prepare them for 21st century careers and empower them to create a more sustainable future.”

EVolocity is a partnership with Enviroschools, Assist Energy Ltd, ETCO, and MeloYelo.
