Please read letter below. This has also been sent to you via email.

Dear Parents and Caregivers of Year 10 Students

Over the next few weeks All Year 10 students will be studying a program about Sexuality. Your child’s Health teacher will be teaching this program. This is a compulsory and integral aspect of health.

The New Zealand Curriculum states that in health education students will develop competencies for reproductive health and positive sexuality, and safety management. Students build resilience through strengthening their personal identity and sense of self-worth by engaging in processes for responsible decision making as well as developing skills that enhance relationships.

As part of the Sexuality Education program, students will consider how the physical, social, spiritual, mental and emotional dimensions of sexuality influence hauora/well-being.

Topics we will be covering include

· Reproductive anatomy and functions

· Contraception

· Socio-ecological influences on sexuality

· Beliefs and values

· Relationships

· Making safer choices

· Sexual orientation, sexual identity and gender

· Body image.

We may also have presentations from outside agencies such as ‘Attitude’.

If you have any questions regarding this program, or wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If for any reason you wish to exclude your child from specified parts of the Sexuality programme, please contact me via email: slang@masseyhigh.school.nz
