INDONESIAN DELEGATION VISIT TO MASSEY HIGH SCHOOL

Nick Hackett —

At the start of Term 3 2017, Massey High School was proud to be hosting a delegation of Indonesian vocational teachers and principals to the school in conjunction with AUT University. The group were here in New Zealand for three weeks to look at professional development and learning in vocational education.

The visit had been arranged by the Indonesian Minister of Education, Education New Zealand, AUT and two other Universities to work directly with the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. This was part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s strategy to increase education trade and collaboration between the two nations.

The principals and teachers were particularly impressed to observe the vocational education activities at Massey High School, such as our commercial kitchens, house building, mini bikes, and go karts. They visited our Automotive Engineering, Tourism, Fashion and Media Academies plus our Technology Faculty, Dance and Art. Individual teachers enjoyed being part of the inter actions between staff and students and seeing the outcomes in action such as the mini bikes and house build that are being completed on site. The weeks were very productive and allowed the teachers to see the way that New Zealand teachers manage this education sector.

We thank everyone involved in organising this visit and we look forward to future developments and collaboration on this front.

Nick Hackett, Assistant Principal.
