AUTOMOTIVE ACADEMY

Nick Hackett —

The Automotive Academy.

Our academy students at Massey High School are involved in skills based courses that lead directly to further development after they leave school to pursue their particular career paths. We work closely with tertiary providers, industry trainers and employers to ensure that our students have an excellent skill base and knowledge of their particular industry.

In the recent April 2018 holidays, Dannie Knox from the Automotive Academy, had the opportunity for work experience at Autohaus in Newmarket. Here is a summary of what was involved.

Work Experience at Autohaus Newmarket by Dannie Knox.

Working at Autohaus was one of the greatest opportunities I have ever received. Not only do you get to work on some amazing cars and get a reference, but you get to meet really cool people.

At Autohaus I had the experience to work on Jaguars, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Bentleys and BMW. I had to carry out tasks such as: Removing sensors, taking tyres off of a car, removing interior trim, how to repair a brake pad and disc, how to use a sand blaster, replacing a pump for a convertable roof, changing oil and oil filter, how to perform a general service and how to replace shock mounts and sway bar links.

All of these tasks and the overall experience at Autohaus has allowed me to get a good idea of how the real world operates and what it is like to be a mechanic. Due to these experiences I have decided to continue with my career path of being a mechanic as fixing cars is exciting and challenging.
