BOYS' VOLLEYBALL SUCCESS

Elaine Curtis —

Congratulations to the Junior Boys' Volleyball Team and their coach Mr Ian Magpantay

The Junior Boys Volleyball team has had a fantastic season this year.

The boys were able to perform well in their games despite only having one training session before the season started.

We were able to beat Rutherford College, Green Bay High School, Mt Albert Grammar, and Kelston Boys' High School during the regular season, although Liston College proved to be a tougher team to overcome.

Nevertheless, Massey High School was able to rise to the top of the rankings by the time playoffs began with 6 wins and only 2 losses. During the playoffs, we defeated Rutherford College in a convincing fashion, but then we came up against our division rivals Liston College. However, this time we were able to defeat them with a final score of 25-23 in the second set.

These victories meant that Massey High School became the Western Boys' Division Junior Volleyball Champions for 2017.

The star of the season was undoubtedly Paul Siaki (10HCK) who played as Outside Hitter for the team. His calm demeanor prevented the team from cracking during high pressure situations in our games. His explosive athleticism also allowed the team to gain many points during the season.

Special mention must be made of Dayley Leapai (10HCK) who played as Middle Blocker in the team for his consistent performance on and off the court throughout the season.

Well done to these boys and all the best for them in their Senior Volleyball careers.

Mr Ian Magpantay
