AWVA Parent Student Evening

Anna North —

An Open Invitation to the Academy Student Parent Evening, at Massey High School on Wednesday 20th March 2019 at 6pm in the BRPAC.

Our academies offer fantastic opportunities to our student community to gain skills based training in areas that are in high demand. All present academy students and parents plus all interested junior students and their families are invited to the above.

At the evening, discover what the students do, talk to the tutors who teach the classes, find out which careers the academies lead to.

Massey High is the lead provider in AWVA, Auckland West Vocational Academy.

The academies are a partnership between six West Auckland schools and tertiary institutions such as UNITEC. All the academies offer students the opportunity to get involved in a skills based Vocational Pathway at Massey High School, with aligned onsite tutoring at various providers such as, UNITEC, Auckland Hotel and Chef, Whitireia (radio school), ITC International Travel College, NZ Fashion Tech and other NZQA approved providers during their school year. Some of the academies take place at our partner schools, such as Mahi a Toi, Maori Performing Arts, which is based at Rutherford College.

All the academies are different in their detail but they all involve studying for the NCEA, working towards a National Certificate, skills based learning at a provider and the opportunity to have their NCEA endorsed with a Vocational Pathways Award at Level 2. The credits gained in the academies count towards the NCEA as well.

Come along and hear about the choices our students have for the future or find out more about what the students are doing this year. All welcome. We anticipate finishing just after 7pm.
