SCHOLARSHIPS

Careers Department —

Fees for tertiary study are approximately $7K per year plus other costs associated with study - accommodation, living expenses, travel costs, books, laptop etc.

Scholarships, grants and awards can ease the financial burden of study and there are criteria that must be met e.g. where and what you plan to study, academic achievement, gender, ethnicity, financial hardship, leadership, sporting excellence, community service, the region you live in, school decile, first in family re tertiary study and even who your parents work for.

giveMe is the website that lists most of the financial scholarships available in NZ and can be accessed here at Massey High School (Careers room and Library) and also at public libraries. Each tertiary institution also has their scholarships listed on their websites and in the prospectus.

Closing Dates vary but the majority close in August/September each year.

Competition for scholarships is immense and you should apply for as many as you are eligible for.

If your child is in Year 13 and wants to apply for some money to help with tertiary study then they need to sign their name on the GiveMe booking sheet in their tutor room or come to Careers and ask for an appointment time to use the database. Alternatively, they can go online to the scholarship page of the institution they wish to attend and fill in the paperwork there.
