Hospitality Academy Students in Action in the Community.

Anna North —

Our Level 2 and 3 Hospitality students have been developing their skills out in the local community in August. They have initiated a “meals on wheels” scheme, whereby the students prepare, serve and interact with some more isolated members of our community. The students have set up a pop up restaurant in our café at MHS and then served people from the Onsdorp retirement village with a two course meal. After the meals are served the students sit down and interact with the elderly, exchanging stories.

The students have also taken their services off-site to the Jack Smythe Village on Royal Road, which is part of Haumaru Housing run by Auckland Council and The Selwyn Foundation. The weather was awful but the welcome was very warm. When they were at the Jack Smyth Village students shared their culture by playing music and dancing with the residents.

We are looking forward to continuing these links with the community.
