PRINCIPAL MESSAGE - DECEMBER 2017

Glen Denham —

Kia Ora All,

For a number of our students and staff their time has come to an end with us at Massey.

Students off to Universities within New Zealand and overseas, and others off to work and tertiary institutions.

Staff that are retiring or moving to other schools.

This is the very nature of schools, but everyone that leaves, leaves us with a legacy. I think of Mrs Brown, our fantastic teacher of Art who retires after 21 years. Lynn summed it up for me when she said she will miss her students who made doing this job a fantastic experience, her colleagues and the little things at Massey like the tui's and the cherry blossoms. She left us all feeling great about what we do and the year ahead. Lynn will be sorely missed. She is the epitome of what a teacher should strive to be in every sense - a class act from start to finish.

We wish both students and staff all the very best for the future and thank you all for your effort and commitment over the years.

NCEA Exams

Our students were wonderful in their exams. Their behaviour was superb and the exam invigilators said that the students seemed even more focused this year. We are on track to achieve our best results in the school's history. Well done both students and staff!

BOT

Thank you so much to Mr John Garelja, Mrs Catherine Clark, Mr Wade Hansen, Dr Hinekura Smith, Mr Wane Wharerau, Ms Caroline Clark, Miss Ella Shepherd, Mr Kurt Jarrett, Mr Malua Tipi and Mr Karl Goddard. They give so much of their time and energy to our students. Many late nights and lots of thought, support, challenge and energy to giving our students and staff the very best chance to be great. Thank you all on behalf of our community.

Staff

They continue to go above and beyond for our students. We are fortunate that our staff are people of extraordinary character and will. I believe that they are among the very best teachers in New Zealand. I am excited about the new staff coming on board next year and the outstanding leadership they will receive from our current staff.

Students

Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication,  smiles, encouragement and guidance. We are on this road together. You have been an absolute pleasure to work with and to learn from.

We must be ready for 2018. Those that are leaving us, go and do great things! Those that are back again, we will be asking you to work just that little bit harder. We will be challenging you to exceed what you thought was possible. Never ever forget that we love and respect you.

To our Head Boy Angel Chang, Head Girl Frances Waddams, Deputy Head Boy Te Ruki Pierce-Dunn and Deputy Head Girl and BOT Rep Ella Sheppard: You have all been a tower of strength for both students and staff. I feel so glad for the world when I think you four will be leading us.  Arohanui x

My last thoughts are with the Matthes whanau whose beautiful son Keenan, a fabulous member of our school community, was taken from us in a tragic accident this year. Thank you Pres and Karamea for your unbelievable strength,  grace and dignity this year. You have both led us superbly as we navigate our waka without Keenan at the helm.

To all of our families, thank you for allowing us to work with your children and for supporting us. Teaching is a wonderful job, I think the best job in the world. It's a privilege to serve our community and to watch our students change the world for the better.

Humble thanks
