Carol Bashford - Associate Principal

Elaine Curtis —

This week we introduce Carol Bashford

Name: Carol Bashford

Role: Associate Principal

Born: Nelson, NZ

Education: Bachelor of Science from Otago University, Diploma in Teaching

Experience: I grew up playing sports with my brothers and sisters and then in other teams. I picked raspberries, tobacco and kiwifruit to earn some money to go away to university in Dunedin thinking I would study Physical Education, but I discovered Science and Maths and studied these instead.

Schools are the places where futures are made and education is the key to improvement. I remember feeling like I was in exactly the right place on my first day at teachers college.

I have been a Biology and Chemistry teacher for 30 years starting at Queens High School in Dunedin, then Waimea College in Nelson and most recently at Takapuna Grammar School on the North Shore where I was Deputy Principal for 8 years. I joined Massey earlier this year.

Areas of Responsibility: Teaching and Learning, Achievement and Attainment, Professional Development, Staffing

Interests: My interests mainly revolve around work and family-life with three teenage sons, so include sports, food and reading about education. I also like to spend time learning about new things and catching up with friends.

Massey High School: At Massey we are committed to providing education that gives students the best opportunities for their future lives. This includes achievement at the highest levels. Massey students are a vibrant, talented and resourceful group of young people who are well-connected to their school and community and who will go on to lead meaningful and successful lives.
