MASSEY HIGH CARPENTRY ACADEMY STUDENTS IN ACTION AT WAITAKERE PRIMARY

Elaine Curtis —

Recently in Term 3, the Carpentry Academy students went to Waitakere Primary School to help out with a new memorial garden. The students dug out a Koru path and laid the boxing timber. This was a different type of task with the curved nature of the design. However, under the guidance of Mr Fergus the building tutor, this was achieved using the skills they have learnt during the year.

In the near future they will also be involved in building a new pergola for the school that is going in the garden. A design and costing was also created and calculated for this new pergola using other skills taught in the course.

The staff at the Primary school were very appreciative of the help and workmanship of students who demonstrated how community work can be rewarding.
