MASSEY HIGH SCHOOL - BASKETBALL

Sport Department —

The Massey High School 2017 Women’s Premier Team has had a solid start to the year, with a full calendar that started in November 2016 with two pre-season training's a week.

2017 was always shaping up to be a BIG basketball year with a full calendar mixing the School basketball events with Representative commitments. Fortunately this year the squad has 14 players and we are able to handle player unavailability easier than in the past two years. The ladies are fully committed to the team and are coming together nicely in terms of on/off court chemistry.

Our eyes are firmly set on Secondary School Nationals held in Palmerston North this October, where we are aiming to place middle 8 (significant improvement from 2016).

As a group we are trusting the process of the build up to this pinnacle of high school basketball. We are taking each game as a building block towards the end goal.  Along the way we have been able to enjoy some good results at 3x3 Nationals, Qualifiers and early on in the Premier season.

Over the next few weeks we will meet some serious competition in Mt Albert Grammar, Auckland Girls' Grammar and Westlake Girls High School. Nationally ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively, this will give us a real measure of how we handle elite teams and pressure as a group.

I am especially pleased with our leadership group: Captain, Sylvia Wieczorek (13MRR) and Vice Captain Terina Aratangi (12TWN) who have really taken ownership of their responsibilities and created a great team culture.

Please try to get along to our home games and support the ladies and see some great Basketball, We would like to say a special thanks to our sponsors.
