Please note that The Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement requires that every teacher has at least five hours of non-contact time per week. If we have to call on a teacher to cover another teacher’s class because we cannot employ a relief teacher, we are required to compensate the teacher for losing their mandatory non-contract time.

Once a teacher has accumulated four hours of lost time they are entitled to a day’s compensation. Over the course of the year, every teacher has accumulated at least four and is entitled to compensation. We have decided on Thursday 28 September as the compensation day for all staff. Teachers will be required to be at work on this day, doing planning, marking and report writing as they would normally do in their contractual non-contract time.

We acknowledge the inconvenience this creates for parents and we offer to supervise any students who need to attend school. Transport will have to be parents’ responsibility as buses will not run on this day.
