Maungaraki School — Feb 14, 2020

Welcome to Term 1

FOOTWEAR

As its summer and the weather has been so great it has been a perfect time to participate in sports and PE outside of the classroom.  Please send children to school in footwear that allows them to fully participate in these sports - so no jandals please.

WEAR YOUR HAT

All children need to wear a wide brimmed hat during terms 1 & 4. Please make sure your child has one in their bag for use during morning tea and lunch breaks. Hats are available for purchase at the school office or from our website link.

MAUNGARAKI SCHOOL BOOK EXCHANGE

Open before and after school in Room 9 each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Book Exchange will be open for children to swap a book they've read for a new-to-them book. If there is no book there that they want that day, the voucher that they get for trading in a book will be held in Room 9 until they find one that they like.

If they wish to, they may keep their chosen book forever, or they may bring it in for a new one the following week. We have hundreds of novels and picture books, so bring in books in great condition, and swap for a new book! The Maungaraki Book Exchange is all about supporting children in developing a love of reading. We hope our Book Exchange will provide a small way of helping children keep reading new books without incurring any cost, as well as learning about the value of recycling.

SCHOLASTIC

Issue 1 of Scholastic Book club is open for orders.  This will close this on Monday 17 February 2020.  All orders need to be placed online via the scholastic website.

ROAD SAFETY

Please support the safety of our students.  Remember:
- The drive way is closed before and after school each day so do not use it.  There may be a bollard or a cone in place so do not move this to come down the drive way.
- The cones will be in the parking area in front of the community centre when we have buses due for events.  Do not park here when the cones are up.
- Please use the crossing, it is safer and sets a good example for our students.
- Respect the local community by not parking over drive ways and yellow lines or by block entrances.
- We are very lucky to have a lot of parking around the school.  Please use parking areas to drop off and pick up children.

If you are able to be a parent support on road patrol before or after school please let the office know.  This allows our teachers to be there for the parents and students before and after school.
