Feedback

As you know Heather Dodge of Kaleidoscope Solutions has been working with small groups on a Wellbeing programme over the last two terms. Here is some information about what has been covered. Wellbeing Programme – Small group sessions

The Wellbeing Programme for small groups has been thoroughly enjoyed by all students who have participated. The programme links directly to the National Schools Curriculum and Maungaraki Schools’ Heart values. The purpose of the programme is to teach effective mind-set strategies and techniques to support students as they navigate through everyday challenges connecting to social emotional learning. Topics such as self-regulation, confidence, relationship building, self-esteem and resilience. Feedback from the students and teachers has been very positive and encouraging.

Here are a few topics we’ve been working on:

Speaking up, expressing ourselves.

Working on simple and effective communication strategies.

Learning some self-regulation techniques.

Developing skills in stepping outside our comfort zone and giving things a go.

Tips to Work on at Home:

Encourage self-reflection: Help your child develop self-awareness by reflecting on their strengths and accomplishments. Encourage them to set goals and celebrate their achievements, no matter how small.

Encourage stepping outside the comfort zone: Encourage your child to try new activities or take on challenges that push them outside their comfort zone. Support them throughout the process and emphasise the value of learning from setbacks and embracing new experiences.

Practise active listening: Foster active listening skills at home by encouraging family members to give each other undivided attention during conversations. Teach your child the importance of listening without interruption and responding thoughtfully.

Model effective communication: Demonstrate effective communication skills by being a good listener and expressing yourself clearly and respectfully. Encourage open dialogue in the family and create an environment where everyone's opinions and perspectives are valued.
