PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Shane Robinson —

Playground Design

Kia ora koutou,

We hope you are all well. Following the announcement from the Prime Minister earlier this week we will remain at Alert Level 2.

Just a reminder that while everyone is onsite at Alert Level 2, we must adhere to key health measures including:

  • Good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette
  • Staying away if sick
  • Keeping the appropriate physical distance from others
  • Cleaning and disinfecting our high touch surfaces daily
  • Displaying QR code posters at our entrances and encouraging all of our community to download the NZ COVID Tracer App and use it if they come onsite
  • Keeping a visitor register for anyone who cannot use the app and for other visitors who come onsite for a period of time.

Thank you for all of your support and cooperation with this to date, we really do appreciate it. We are very grateful for our community at times like these. All the above things can help to keep our community as safe as possible.

We have been preparing for any possible changes that may happen to our school in relation to COVID. As a school we have seen how quickly Auckland was locked down into Level 3, we are keen to be as prepared as we can for this and urge you to do the same.

We have had a number of children on site at school very early lately. It is great to see kids so keen about school but please remember that school is open for children from 8:30am. If you are having any difficulties in the morning please do feel free to contact us.

We have also had continued issues with parking on Barberry Grove before and after school. Please do ensure that you are parking and driving correctly at this drop off / pick up point. The safety of our children is our main concern in this matter.

We have been working with a range of developers around a new playground design. The aim for this playground is to give the school a playground which meets the developmental needs of a range of our students. The designs have taken into consideration the feedback we received from you and the children last term. Key trends that came through the feedback were to include:

  • Swings / Basket Swing
  • Hanging Bars / Climbing Areas
  • Obstacle Course
  • Slides
  • Imaginary Play
  • Circuit Based play options
  • Flying Fox

We are pleased to share the attached draft plan for your consideration. Please do have a look through this and talk to your children about this.

If you have any feedback please email or call me. I am very happy to discuss this project with you. We are very hopeful that this will be completed early in 2021 and give Maungaraki another neat place to play.

We have just opened a new play area for our junior children in the school. This playground is located next to Room 8 and includes a new sandpit, new playhouse, new slide, new balance beams and new sink/outdoor kitchen area. A massive thanks to our caretaker Tim who has worked tirelessly to create this incredible space - Thank you Tim!

Until next time, Be your best!
