BASKETBALL TERM 3 SEASON

Congratulations to all of our Maungaraki teams on a great first week of the Term 3 season! See below for team write ups and to celebrate our Players of the Day!

Maungaraki Heat (Year 1/2)
Player of the Day was Tom Dutton.  This team continued their awesome team work from last term. They dribble and pass the ball like they've been playing for 12 months not 3 months. Our newest member Tom played so well for his first ever game and for his hard work on both attack and defence he was awarded Player of the Day. All the parents are so proud of their littles ones who go out there and have fun and do it with smiles on their faces. Keep up the great work Maungaraki Heat :)

Maungaraki Thunder (Year 1/2)
They all played so well, especially since we had 5 new players in the team that had never played before!! Kain Burgess was Player of the Day and was everywhere!

Maungaraki Spurs (Year 3/4)
They had a good first up win against Muritai. In a high scoring game we kept the points coming and held out on defence to win 16-12. Player of the day was Jackson Berry, who in his very first game picked it up really well.

Maungaraki Knicks (Year 3/4)
Our first game Players of the Days were Ryan and Xavier. Both boys had a great game with both scoring brilliant goals.

Maungaraki Hornets (Year 3/4)
Tough first game up with Naenae losing 14-2. The first game is always a bit fragmented with the kids just getting back into the groove of things. Player of the Day went to Mia - Mia was straight into the game and engaged on court, her confidence with bringing the ball up the court was absolutely fantastic to see! Nice work Mia.

Maungaraki Ballers (Year 5/Y6)
Player of the Day was Cole Gwerder.  Week 1 was always going to be highly competitive game between the Maungaraki Ballers and Trentham Bulls. Both unbeaten last season in their respective pools.Maungaraki led throughout the first half but then Trentham came back strong and dominated the 2nd half. At one point it looked like Maungaraki was down and out. With 3 minutes to go and the score was 24-18 to Trentham - Maungaraki dug deep and with some good team defence they managed to convert some quick goals. Cole was solid on both attack and made some great breakaways. With 20 seconds to go the game was tied at 24 all. Trentham had one last chance for a basket but the mighty Maungaraki defence was too much and they were unable to finish. Final score 24 - 24.

Maungaraki Mavericks (Year 5/6)
The team did super well and the second half in particular they played amazing. We lost to a very strong St Claudine’s Shooters team 26-10 . The player of the game was hard to pick but this week it went to Sofie for her amazing work on defence and never giving up. Well done to everyone.

Maungaraki Timberwolves (Year 7/8)
Were defaulted to.

Good luck for next week everyone!
