PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Maungaraki School —

Thank you

Kia ora,

Firstly, a huge thank you to all of you. We have really appreciated your support through this difficult term. As a school, our aim is to be an inclusive place where whānau are actively involved in all areas of education. The last term has put immense pressure on this and we do apologise for the inconvenience caused as we had to put health and safety measures into place.

It has also been a very challenging time for so many of our families, with many of you being directly impacted by Covid. Please continue to reach out to us if you need anything at all - we are more than happy to support where we can.

As we head into Term 2, we are pleased to say that some of the restrictions will be lifted at Maungaraki School. We will be guided by the wellbeing of our school and community but for now, we are able to make changes in the following places.

Whānau are welcome back on site. You will be able to drop off and pick up tamariki from their classrooms. For now, classrooms will remain student only zones however the grounds and porches are open for you. We can't wait to resume our morning and afternoon chats in a much more informal way. We do anticipate that classrooms will be open to you very shortly each and every day.

Parent meetings (goal setting meetings included) will be face to face. We are excited to be able to sit down with you in the classrooms and discuss the beginning of the year and some goals.

In Term 2 our break times will once again be combined for students. Children will all have the same breaks and will be able to play together. This has always been such a core part of our school and we are looking forward to our tamariki mixing fully again.

Break times are as follows in Term 2:

Day Start - 8:55am
Morning Break - 10:30am - 10:50am
Lunch Break - 12:00pm - 12:40pm
Afternoon Break - 1:40pm - 2:00pm

We are also looking towards some shared Hui to celebrate our learning. We will aim to hold these outdoors (where possible) or in teams indoors.

At the end of this term we have said 'see you soon' to Trish Cherry and Alle Pollard Smith as they extend their whānau. We can't wait to meet their new arrivals and see them all back here at school very soon. We also say farewell to Sarah Cappleman. Sarah is also due to be a Mum however is officially leaving our team. We do hope that you stay in touch Mrs C and please know you are always welcome here at Maungaraki. The work Trish, Alle and Sarah have carried out at Maungaraki School can not be understated, we have been so fortunate to have them here working with our tamariki.

Thank you again for your support over the term, we hope you all have a safe and restful break. Bring on Term 2!

Nga Mihi Nui,

Shane Robinson
