PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Shane Robinson —

Welcome Level 1

Kia ora,

At Maungaraki School we are very grateful to be back in Level 1. This means we are largely back to normal.  It has been neat to see you all coming into the school grounds before and after school - it has not been the same without our families on the school grounds. We are aware that some children really enjoyed the independence that they gained during the drop off and pick up time. Please do feel free to pop in and see class teachers in Level 1.

Our school has been a busy and fun place over the last two weeks. During our break times a range of high interest activities have been run by staff. From bushwalks to crafts, Pokemon clubs to sports challenges - it has all been happening! The children have really engaged in these and the images below really tell the story. A huge thank you to our staff who always go the extra mile.

We are going to meet with our families and learners early in Term 3. At these meetings we would like to discuss with you the year so far, share some work from students and set goals. COVID-19 has interrupted so much this year we are looking forward to sitting down with you and setting goals for the remainder of the year. At these meetings we look forward to hearing from you and you will be given information around your child's learning, however this is not a report, more of a mid year update. Our staff has been working hard to design learning and balance wellbeing as we work through this situation.

Finally I would like to celebrate the Superheroes of Maungaraki School. Our Support Staff are an incredible asset to our school and community.

The Support Staff here work in a wide range of ways to help the school run in the way it does. The range of roles they carry out is amazing. On any given day they hold crucial roles in the care and education of our students. Often these roles are unseen, however they are always needed.

The way in which they care for our learners is incredible. This group of people are kind, thoughtful and always have the best interests of children at heart. I have seen countless times where these wonderful people have supported students to feel safe and comfortable as they take risks with their learning. They fix bumps, help guide, encourage, set goals, motivate and engage our children.

Our support staff are experts in the classroom. They work seamlessly across our classrooms running a wide array of programmes to support learning. They help students one to one, help in groups and support teachers. We simply could not educate our students without them.

Our support staff help our school environment to be engaging and safe. They can be found mending things, gardening, cooking and communicating with families. They keep our school organised and running smoothly.

Without this special group of people Maungaraki School could not be the place it is. Thank you support staff!

Keep safe out there.
