SPORTS

Maungaraki School —

Cross Country / Fun Run - Thursday 7th April

The Cross Country will run much like our previous events of this type. Students who are keen to compete will run in this Cross Country as they test themselves and/or aim for qualification into the Zone Events (only years 4-8 go to Zone). We will be encouraging all tamariki to push themselves and have a go at this event. This is not compulsory. This event will be run around the school grounds with a course based on the distance the athletes would run at the Zone event.

The Fun Run will be a whole school event. This race is about incorporating the run and having fun. It’s about teamwork, it’s about getting involved, it’s about participating, it’s about the kids supporting each other and having a go. This event can provide an opportunity to explore physical activity outside; to balance, crawl, jump, climb; to encounter physical obstacles and overcome them.

Children will need drink bottles (water), hats if sunny, shoes for running, and dress in house colours, although the clothing should be appropriate to run in. For the Fun Run, children are encouraged to bring a light coloured shirt that they don’t mind getting dirty/wet/dyed.

We will update the community closer to the time around whether or not whānau will be able to come on to school grounds for this event.

Any questions can be directed to Matua Sam at sam.blandford@maungaraki.school.nz.
