Football Exchange

YEAR 5/6 FOOTBALL EXCHANGE

On Thursday 29th August, a Year 5/6 football team hosted Normandale school in a friendly football exchange. It was a tough game for the team, but regardless of the result they should be very proud of their performance.

Their 2 goals came through fantastic strikes from Clay and Alvaro, but the player of the day was Deziah Te Kira whose incredible goalkeeping keep many of Normandale's shots out, including one memorable strike from way out.

On Tuesday 3rd September Maungaraki travelled to Eastern Hutt school for a friendly football game. Both teams played with great attitudes and showed amazing fair play and teamwork. The defence in the second half was fantastic and Maungaraki was able to keep EHS out, all the while scoring their own fantastic goal through Jed. While EHS won the game, Maungaraki should be very proud of the progress they've made as a team and the effort they put in. Player of the day was Jackson for his amazing defence.

We have our last game coming up next Wednesday against St Peter's and Paul's. We look forward to seeing them progress ever further. Thank you to John Leonard for coaching the team!

TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT

On Friday 30th August 3 teams represented Maungaraki School at the Intermediate/Primary Schools Table Tennis Teams Championship at Empire Stadium in Petone.

Our team of Harrison, Jed, and Deziah came 4th in their division, Jackson and Ali did a great job in their division despite being down a player, and our third team of Rex, Ethan, and Aidan won all their games and their division!

Congratulations and amazing job to all teams - it's so great to see our students trying out new sports and / or further developing their skills in games they enjoy.

"Table tennis was really fun. It presented a new challenge to me that I had never had to face. I had never played competitive table tennis before and it was awesome. I only lost one game out of 10 and I only just lost it at that. Our team won our division and I was really happy with that." - Aidan Foster

RIPPA RUGBY

Last week, 10 students from Maungaraki School represented the Wellington Region at the National Rippa rugby Tournament. There were 26 teams competing, and every team was assigned a country - we were ARGENTINA. We stayed at the YHA, which is a hostel in Wellington City. The tournament was held in Island Bay and went for 2 days. We had 3 wins, and were the first team from Wellington that has won any games which is great for us. Our experience was so amazing and we’re so proud of our team. On behalf of all of us a special thank you to….The coaches, Naomi Burt, Richard Papps and Corey Burt, all of the teachers who made this possible, parents, supporters and most of all our team! - Mia Burt
