HĀNGĪ

Maungaraki School —

Friday 13 September

Kia ora koutou! We are really looking forward to our shared hāngī on Friday the 13th of September. If you haven’t already, please let Hazel Andis or Rebecca Renfrew know if you can help the day before with food preparation, on the day putting the hāngī down, digging it up again, or serving it to the kids.

The hāngī will go in to the ground early in the morning, so if you would like to help, or sit by the fire and have a yarn, we will be at school from 5:30am.  All welcome, hot chocolates provided!

Before the hāngī: if you are wanting to contribute please provide a gold coin donation on Monday the 9th September.  This will be used to cover the cost of food.  We also need some newspaper, please drop any you wish to donate into room 14.

Thursday 12th: For the preparation of the food, all children will have the opportunity to help out; on Thursday can they please bring along a potato peeler and some elbow grease!

Friday 13th: On Friday the aim is to eat at 1:00pm on the courts. If your child could please bring a bowl to eat from, we will provide a fork. There will be vegetables available for those who are Halal/vegetarian. There will also be some gluten free stuffing, and the hāngī is cooked with no nuts, eggs, or dairy. Whānau are welcome to come and join us while we eat, please remember though that the purpose is for your child to have a taste of hāngī rather than feed the troops. Make sure to bring some snacks along, and provide your child with their regular lunch on the day.
