Maungaraki School —

Winter sports comes to an end

SCHOOL ATHLETICS

We have our Athletics days coming up in Term 4. The important dates to note are:

  • Thursday 29 October - Tipu Olympics. We will be having our athletics rotation as part of this, including the sprint heats.
  • Friday 30 October - Year 5 - 8 Senior Athletics Day
  • Thursday 12 November - Kākano Athletics Fun Day

We love being able to do things as a whole school so we will be having our Junior Fun Runs and Year 3 - 8 running event finals on the afternoon of the Year 5 - 8 Athletics Day (Friday 30 October).

More information on this to come at the beginning of Term 4.

BASKETBALL

Congratulations to all our basketball teams for competing in the Hutt Valley Basketball leagues this season. We had a fantastic number of teams entered and it is great seeing so many students playing basketball for the school. The teams faced some challenges this year but it was great to hear how well they were representing Maungaraki School both on and off court. I would like to give a special mention to the coaches and managers of all our teams. Without your commitment and expertise, we would be unable to field the teams we did and you made it possible. Thank you very much for all you did for our basketball teams this year. Also thank you to the families of the players as it was a tricky time with games happening during Level 2.

All teams did well in their respective grades and I'd like to give a special mention to the following teams:
Year 1/2 Heat finishing 1st in the A Grade
Year 3/4 Knicks finishing 1st in the B Grade
Year 5/6 Warriors finishing 3rd in the A Grade
Year 7/8 Warriors finishing 5th in the A Grade

Well done again to all our players and thank you again to the coaches, managers and supporters.  Could all players please return their basketball singlets to Mr Cowman in room 14 or the school office.

NETBALL

The last of the seasons Netball games are on this Saturday. Despite the disruptions caused by the different alert levels we managed to get a full season of games.  So thank you to our families for supporting the changes made to make this happen.

A big thank you to the coaches and managers, without you working hard to support our teams we would not have such a strong group of netball players across the school.

Could you please now hand your netball tunic back to Mrs Prichard in room 13 or the school office. Please make sure it has been washed ready to store away for next year.
