ENVIRO UPDATE

Kim Webby —

Term 3

We recently had Mrs Matthews in to show us how to make self watering pots for plants. These are some of the ideas that the Get Growing Maungaraki group demonstrate at their monthly meetings (first Saturday of the month). Hopefully we can grow some seedlings for both our community garden and to swap at one of their meetings. Any one that is interested in learning about growing vegetables, seedling swapping, or sustainable practices can find more information on their Facebook page. Each Enviro member made their own planter and planted squash, pumpkin or lettuce seeds. Many thanks Lisa!

We had a great turnout last Thursday for Stationery Savers. At the end of the year unwanted used/new stationery gets put aside or donated. This is available for the children to come and sort through for pens, pencils etc. This is a great way to redistribute unneeded stationery, and to replace items that are needed in class. If you are having a clean out over the holidays, or at the end of the year and have items which you won't need next year, these can come to Rm 10.

Our soup group runs on a Friday morning in the Waihanga Room, where we prepare vegetables for our Gluten Free veggie soup. We leave it in the slow cooker until afternoon tea and then get back together to dish up bowls of healthy soup. We use vegetables including silverbeet, spinach, leeks and parsley that are in the community garden.

We have started running our Book Exchange again on Friday straight after school. This runs until 3:15 and you can pop in to exchange outgrown/unneeded books for gently used books. We have lots of novels and many many picture books at the moment!
