Maungaraki School —

Market day fun

These past few weeks have been a hopeful glimpse of what could be around the corner for us. We have had successful assemblies, an amazing Market Day and some very special sharing with schools across the hills. We can not tell you how nice it is to be back in the swing of events like this.

Our Market Day was a huge success. The tamariki had created some incredible games and items to sell, they really worked hard in class to provide a wide range of items for us. Students were then able to display expert skills selling and negotiating with customers. It was unreal to see the smiles and joy as the day unfolded, even when we got rained on. We are very pleased to announce that we raised over $7,000 through this day.

Market day could not have been the success it was without the input and efforts of the entire staff here at school. They went above and beyond to really support tamariki to make great products and games and they were instrumental in the running of the event. Each and every one of them carried out a range of roles outside of their job description to make this happen for our community. As I walked around the event I was so proud to be a part of Maungaraki School.

We also have awesome support from our community and Home and School. We received amazing donations for our raffles and the Home and School were able to put together some incredible prizes. They also fed and watered a very excited crew on the day with sausages, lollies and fizz - Thank you so much Home and School Team.

The school was really lucky to receive some incredible donations from the following companies, a huge shout out to:

  • New World Metro
  • Countdown Lower Hutt
  • Autism New Zealand

Each of these companies were beyond generous - thank you for all you do for our school!

Market Day was a really special day for us. We were able to put learning into action and our tamariki had some real world feedback, we were able to raise some money for our school, and most importantly we were able to come together as a community. It was brilliant to see you all here - thank you so much for your support on the day. We simply could not have done it without you.

I am sad to share that Hazel Andis has resigned from her role as Team Leader/Teacher at Maungaraki School. Hazel has accepted a job at Konini Street School in Wainuiomata. This is great news for Hazel and Konini Street School - however it is really sad news for our kura.

Hazel is a huge part of Maungaraki School, she has been at the school for the last 8 years since she began as a student teacher. Her work in the leadership team and in the area of Te Ao Māori are invaluable. I am sure you will join me in wishing her the best in her new adventure, which is close to home for her and provides new challenges. Good Luck Hazel, please stay in touch.
