COVID-19 LEVEL 2

Maungaraki School —

What does this mean for families at Maungaraki School

The decision to move to Alert Level 2 has been announced by the Minister of Health and is in effect till 11:59pm Friday 14 August. During Level 2 we continue to take extra precautions at school.

Level 2 is about being safe and sensible. The key messages are:

  • At level 2 school will be open for all students to attend. If a child needs to stay at home due to health concerns let the school know.

  • Students are able to be on site from 8:30am - 3:10pm.  Where possible we encourage children to be dropped off & picked up at the gate.

  • Only students & staff are in the classrooms and we would like to keep the school grounds a student only space.

  • We use social distancing where we can and we clean our spaces regularly.

  • We ensure that children and young people regularly wash and dry hands. We do have hand sanitisers at entry to all classrooms and shared spaces.

  • We encourage children to cough & sneeze into their elbow and try to avoid touching their face.

  • Our fountains have been turned off so please ensure that students come with a drink bottle.

  • We are limiting visitors on site, where you can please call or make contact via email.

  • We keep a register for contact tracing for all visitors on site. Please use the Covid Tracer app QR code when entering school or sign in using our register at the office.

  • We will not be meeting in groups bigger than 100, so all assemblies are cancelled until further notice.

  • Parents are asked to keep any sick children at home. If a sick child comes to school we will send them home.

If the Ministry instructs us to enter Level 3 there is an expectation that students, of parents who are non-essential workers, will be learning from home. Recently in Auckland parents had 12 hours to make these arrangements. We would appreciate it if you started thinking about what this might look like for you and your family if this did happen. We will send out more information if we do end up moving into Level 3.

As a school, our aim is to ensure that we keep our children’s Well Being at Heart. Although there are many protocols and procedures that we will be managing, we are keen to make sure school remains a fun, engaging environment that supports their needs and well being.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we continue to navigate some challenging times.
