Eastbourne Forest Rangers

Our volunteer group, the Eastbourne Forest Rangers Inc, provides guiding services on Matiu/Somes Island.  Over recent years we have had the pleasure of guiding many Wellington school groups on their educational visits to the island. We now need more volunteer guides, especially those who are able to guide mid-week.

Do you know of any retiring, or former staff, or members of your community who may be interested in becoming a Matiu/Somes volunteer guide, commencing later this year or early next.  If you do we welcome hearing from them.  Please contact me to discuss, or for additional information.  Gerald Rawson - Secretary efrtours@gmail.com or 027 242 9211.

Suzuki Piano Lessons

Suzuki music education combines intrumental teaching with a philosophy embracing the whole development of the child. In our piano lessons, we build skills, one step at a time and at the child's own pace to ensure comfort in playing and to enable the development of beautiful tone. As I guide the parent in supporting their child in their home practice, we create an environment with much encouragement and patience in which every child can learn. I teach in Lower Hutt at a cost of $30 per half hour lesson.

For more information, or an initial meeting (without charge), please contact Ingrid on 5770 885, 022 435 2386 or ikpalmer@yahoo.com or.  About Suzuki: suzuki.org.nz

Carterton Daffodil Festival

It’s getting to that time of year when the Daffodil bulbs are popping up all over the Wairarapa district, a sunny little reminder that spring is almost upon us, bringing with it the annual Carterton Daffodil Festival on Sunday 10th September. What is now for many a time-honoured tradition, the festival includes the picking of daffodils at Middlerun, a historic property in Gladstone. As in 2016, there will be FREE buses departing throughout the day starting at 10am from Broadway, to shuttle eager festival goers to and from Middlerun.

The Daffodil Express Steam Train, enroute from Wellington, will be arriving at 10.40am at the Carterton Railway Station before proceeding to Masterton. The short trip between Carterton and Masterton offers local residents and visitors a taste of the historic steam train, whilst still making the most of the festivals activities. To book a round trip Carterton to Masterton return email: carterton.rail.museum@xnet.co.nz to book a Wellington return trip visit http://www.steaminc.org.nz/ .

The festival will be as wonderful as ever with the Big WaiArt Sale, live music, the Daffodil Express Steam Train excursion and all the fun of the fair!

There will be the normal public trains running on the day check out the timetable on the Metlink website www.metlink.org.nz
