New Maungaraki School clothing options

Kia ora e te whānau,

The winter chill is here, brrrrrr. Next week I hope to be able to share with you some warm Maungaraki School clothing options we will have available to keep our children warm in the winter. These will include a soft shell jacket and beanie.

Our children can be an amazing reminder of the values we focus on. I am often blown away with the way children care and show kindness towards each other and adults at Maungaraki School. This is a great skill to keep working on.

Kindness is about caring genuinely for others around you, wanting the best for them and recognising in them the same wants, needs, aspirations, and even fears that you have too. Kindness is warm, resilient, patient, trusting, loyal and grateful. We encourage our students to practice kindness and generosity towards others.

A great way of talking to your children about being kind is discussing if they have filled a bucket today. This is an imaginary bucket that people carry around. When it is full, from others being kind to them, they feel good about themselves. A great book that outlines this well is “Have You Filled a Bucket Today by Carol McCloud.

I would ask you to take some time to ask your child to share ways in which they have been and plan to show kindness to others. A little kindness can go a long way.

One kind word can change someones entire day,

No reira, kia kaha ra,
Nga mihi nui.
