Education Outside the Classroom

KĀKANO SYNDICATE

Monday 5 December Kelly Sports will be running 5 sporting sessions with us at school. We will end the day with some music and drama activities.

Tuesday 7 December is dedicated to getting outside into nature. We will do a walk through part of Bushy Way, exploring with tents, creating art items and toasting marshmallows. For one of our activities we need some wood, if you have any untreated off-cuts of wood at home please bring this to Room 6. We also need parent helpers for this day 8:55 - 3 pm. If you can support please email your child’s teacher.

Wednesday 8 December is our team building day. Students will be taking part in a range of activities to show their HEART spirit.

Thursday 9 December we have a short talk from Project Jonah New Zealand. This talk will explore New Zealand’s whales and dolphins and some of the issues they are facing. We will be creating and discussing sea creatures for the rest of the day.

Friday 10 December is movie morning with our teddies. We are then exploring our school grounds and having some bubble fun.

TIPU SYNDICATE

Wednesday 30th November: Trip to Matiu/Somes Island Students need to be at school by 8am as we will be leaving school at 8.10am. We will be walking down to Petone Train Station to catch the 9.13am train in to Wellington. Two classes will catch the ferry over to Matiu/Somes Island at 10am. The other two classes will go to the city museum before catching the 10.30am ferry to Matiu/Somes Island. We will explore Matiu/Somes Island.

The first two classes will leave Matiu/Somes Island at 12.30pm and head to Days Bay. The second two classes will leave Matiu/Somes Island at 1pm. We will depart Days Bay at 2pm by bus to head back to school. Students will need clothing & footwear suitable for walking and being outside, a drink bottle, sunhat and a good lunch. Parent help is required.

Monday 5th December: Fort making, board games This day will be spent at school. Bring something to make a fort. Students can spend time inside their fort once made and play board/card games with their friends.

Tuesday 6th December: Scavenger hunt and water fight.
This will be another day at school. Students will be in teams and do a scavenger hunt around school. There will be prizes. In the afternoon we will have a water fight. Students need some clothes or togs for the water fight, a towel and a water gun/squirty drink bottle if they have them.

Wednesday 7th December: Belmont Regional Park and picnic
We will be walking to Oakleigh Street to spend some time at Belmont Regional Park. We will leave school at 10.30am, play a few games and have lunch, returning to school around 1.30pm. Please make sure students have appropriate footwear and a drink. Parent help is required.

Thursday 8th December: Taskmaster
Another day at school. This is a popular day with the students where they will work together in teams to complete tasks given by the taskmaster. Prizes will be awarded.

Friday 9th December: Trip to City Gallery and Te Papa
We will be leaving school at 9.05am on buses to head into town to visit the City Gallery and Te Papa. After morning tea, at the Civic Centre, two classes will head to the City Gallery and the other two classes will head to Te Papa. Lunch back at the Civic Centre at before classes swapping over. We will return to school at 2.30pm. Parent help is required.

KORU SYNDICATE

  • Monday: Walk to Percy reserve and then back up the hill

  • Tuesday: Rubbish clean up

  • Wednesday: Walk to Baked Beans bend

  • Thursday: Activities/games - BBQ lunch - Banqer auction

  • Friday: - Year 7 & 8 Leadership activities and water activities (pass the water, water guns/balloons)

FERN SYNDICATE

The Fern Syndicate will be doing a range of fun activities around the school.
