COVID UPDATE

Maungaraki School —

Updated Guidance for Tamariki

We are trying our best as a school to manage a pretty difficult winter season of Covid-19 and other winter illnesses. As always, we ask that you keep your child home if they are unwell. Thank you so much for your continued support and cooperation in this matter.

You may be aware that the Ministry of Health recently updated the guidance provided for people who have recovered from COVID-19.

In keeping with the guidelines, If your child has had COVID-19 and has recovered, they do not need to isolate again for 3 months (90 days) if someone they live with tests positive.

This is because the risk of reinfection during this period is low.

However, If it is 28 days or fewer since your child’s previous infection and they develop cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms — either from when they tested positive or first had symptoms — the symptoms may be related to their last infection. Please keep your child home until they are well and for 24 hours after they no longer have symptoms. If your child becomes increasingly unwell, please seek help from your GP.

If it is 29 days or more since their previous infection and your child develops new cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms and they are at low risk of severe illness, it is recommended that they take a COVID-19 test. If it is positive your child must isolate for 7 days.

We ask that you keep your sick child home until their symptoms resolve even if they do not return a positive test.

If your child has an underlying health condition or has symptoms that are getting worse, please seek advice from a health practitioner or call Healthline on 0800 358 5453.

Please feel free to contact the office if you have a sick child and are unsure of how to proceed under the latest guidelines.
