Pink Day Friday 17 May

PINK SHIRT DAY

Friday the 17th of May is Pink Shirt Day.  This is about working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting positive social relationships. It links really well with our KiVa programme and as a school it's a great way to show that we stand together against bullying.

We are asking everyone to turn the school pink.  Wear something pink; it doesn't just have to be a t-shirt anything to show your support.

HOUSE DAY

On Wednesday 26 June we are running a whole school house day based on passions.  We would love to have some volunteers from the community to broaden the range of options available for the students.

So if you have a skill you would love to share with others or if you have something that you really love doing that you could share, please let us know. It could be a sport, card games or arts and crafts. Email chris.mccullough@maungarakischool.net to express your interest.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Issue 3 of the Scholastic Book club is closes on Friday 17 May.  Please place your orders online before Friday 9am.

Issue 4 will be opening soon and will close on the 14/6/19.

GOODTIME MUSIC ACADEMY

The Goodtime Music Academy held a free concert at school yesterday to launch their Music Programme.  Students can chose from learning Guitar (8 years +) Ukulele, Keyboard or Drums or an introduction to Music.  These are small group lessons of 3-5 students and are 30 minutes long.  They are held weekly at school and cost $17.50 per week.

Forms to register your child were handed out during the concert.  If you missed it a copy is attached.  Please hand in to the school office by Monday 20 May.

SCHOOL CLOSURE DUE TO INDUSTRIAL ACTION

As you may have heard, primary and secondary school teachers and principals throughout New Zealand have voted to strike for the full day on Wednesday 29th May.

The Maungaraki School Board of Trustees has carefully considered the options for our school including the availability of teaching and other supervisory staff and the health and safety of children, and has decided to close the school for the full day on the 29th May.

As the school will be closed, it’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike. We understand that the Maungaraki After School Care may have limited places available - For more information see Julia and the team in the school hall either before or after school, or send them an email at maungarakiASC@gmail.com. Others such as Laughalots and Ignite Sport may also have programmes.

We are parents too and understand that closing the school is very disruptive to many families and we don’t make that decision lightly. The issues that teachers throughout New Zealand are seeking to resolve are important and we hope our community will support our teachers during this action.
