Maungaraki School —

Cross Country

With Cross Country season winding down, we have had a number of successes to celebrate!

A huge 56 children attended the South West Zone Cross Country at Sladden Park on the 24th of June. Of those 56, we had 24 children qualify for the Interzone Cross Country which was held at TMP on June 30th. All of the children did themselves and Maungaraki School proud! There were a few children who came in the Top 10 in their respective year groups and qualified for Regionals:

Thomas Dutton (7th at Interzone, 12th at Regionals)
Adam Larkin (4th at Interzone, 7th at Regionals)
Alvaro Grave Medrano (4th at Interzone, 6th at Regionals)
Ruby Kleinveld (4th at Interzone, 40th at Regionals)

SWIMMING SPORTS

We have had a very successful two weeks of swimming at Huia Pool. The swimming programme was able to meet the needs of our swimmers and it was great to see the progress being made over the eight sessions. Our tamariki worked extremely hard as they learnt new techniques and the pool staff commented on their manners, skills and resilience.

We finished the sessions off with a Year 4 - 8 Swimming Sports on Friday. This was a great chance for our swimmers to show off their skills as they competed against each other. The tamariki swam hard and really pushed themselves. It was neat to see so many supporters down cheering them on. The day was rounded off with a House Vs Teachers Relay, Takahe winners of the House points on the day.

Huge thanks to Matua Sam for his organisation of this event. It is no easy task arranging the transport, groups and instructors - Sam made it all look easy.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

Another of our netball super stars has recently trialled and was selected into the year 7 PDP Netball programme.  We are delighted that Mackenzie Gwerder has been selected for this squad and hope she enjoys the opportunity to further her netball skills.

We are continually impressed with the efforts our students put in and are so proud when they shine.
